7th Feb 2021  (Guild of Photographers Official Press Release)

Local Photographer Nikki Goodeve has gained international recognition by winning a haul of significant awards with the Guild of Professional Photographers, including being Runner up for The Founders Cup and Runner Up International Pet Photographer of the Year.

The Guild is the highly regarded national photographic body whose members are dedicated to enhancing their skills in the art, craft and profession of photography. In 2018, The Guild launched a competition called The Founders Cup, in memory of Roy Doorbar and Ian Gee. Doorbar and Gee created The Guild of Wedding Photographers in 1988, which over time has grown to become The Guild of Photographers. They sadly passed away in late 2016 and the ‘Founders Cup’ is a prestigious photography award which acknowledges what Roy and Ian started, and their aims to encourage photographers to take those initial steps to push themselves.

In 2020, entrants from photographers in the UK and overseas were required to submit a 3-image panel or portfolio with a link or theme.

The former Portslade Community College pupil’s images depict three generations, a grandfather, son and grandson who are all, or have been pilots and is called ‘Flying through the generations’ and were prepared in print format for final judging, only ten photographers made the final. Nikki from Haywards Heath, West Sussex was honoured to become the Founders Cup Runner up at the virtual awards ceremony on Saturday 7th February.

Nikki was also announced Runner Up International Pet Photographer of the Year which received over 16,000 entries during 2020 in the Guilds Image of the Month competition.

Each image is scored, and the scores from the year are then totalled to determine who wins one of the Guild's Top 10 Photographer awards. This is clearly a very demanding year long process! Nikki was honoured to also receive awards as a Guild Top Ten Pet Photographer and Top Ten People Photographer, as well as being granted double membership of the ‘Photographers Bars’, all a remarkable achievement when one considers the number and standard of the entries.

Guild Director Steve Thirsk said – He is “both proud and delighted that Nikki Goodeve has achieved this recognition. The Guild has very demanding standards when judging photographic competitions. The judging is undertaken by a panel of internationally recognised experts from a variety of photographic backgrounds, so Nikki quite rightly should be delighted with her extraordinary achievement’

On hearing the news, Nikki said “I'm delighted to have achieved such recognition for my work! It's been such a hard year with my studio closed for periods during the Pandemic, so to receive so many awards has literally just blown me away”

Members of the Guild are committed to achieving the highest standards of professionalism and to a journey of continuing professional development.
